Despite playing football as a kid, I struggled finding a healthy lifestyle in college (pretty normal) until my last year. That year, I found cardio and became a runner. I was up to about 20-30 miles a week and incorporated some healthy eating techniques based on antiquated "low fat" trends.
Post college, running began to feel boring. I was working full time while also going back to school, so I made plenty of excuses to avoid running and let my eating habits fall off a cliff. Fast forward a few more years and I finally discovered CrossFit. My first class was in early 2012 and instantly felt at home. I went from being a newbie to attending class 5 days a week within the first three months.
The community environment was what sealed the deal for me. The competition is awesome as well, but everyone supporting one another and encouraging one another is what makes it easy to adopt this fitness program as a lifestyle. I have found a group of friends that I get to hang out with 6 days a week. And it's often one of the best hour of my day.
My father was a high school teacher and an athletic coach. So I think I have coaching and teaching in my blood. In the 12 years I have been doing CrossFit I have had many different coaches and I have loved learning from each of them. I have always been excited to share a tip or technique that I have picked up along the way with others at the gym. To be honest, I find myself seeking the high that I get when I give someone a tip or a cue and they accomplish something they are struggling with, or I help them improve at something on which they are working.
I am so excited to be a coach and help our community fall in love and stay in love with a healthy and active lifestyle for all of their years.
